Connecticut River Estuary Metropolitan Planning Organization

As a result of demographic changes during the 2000 Census, the nine town Estuary region was switched from a rural transportation region to an urbanized region. This designation affected transportation planning methods and funding within the region.

After approval of the new region by the Governor in 2003, a formal Metropolitan Planning Organization was created and its membership currently includes the First Selectmen from each of the nine Estuary towns. The MPO board meets the second Wednesday morning of each month at the CRERPA office to provide the region with comprehensive transportation planning. Specific tasks include:

  • Develop, write and amend as necessary the Regional Transportation Plan
  • Work with other transportation providers in the area to continually improve transit alternatives,
  • Review and vote on federally funded local, regional and State transportation projects,
  • Provide opportunities for public comment and input at meetings.

Information on these various tasks and links to information about transportation planning region can be found on this page. We invite you to take a look at the various topics of interest. Questions and comments for the MPO can be sent to CRERPA written mail, email or phone.
