BIKEWAYS: Biking enthusiasts know that the CRERPA region is a wonderful location for scenic rides. It can also be dangerous due to heavy traffic volume and road configuration on many routes. Experienced bicyclists can generally negotiate these routes, but families with children have a more difficult time finding areas for safe biking. As part of the Regional Transportation Plan, CREMPO/CRERPA is currently working on the initial phases of a bicycle plan for the region. The components of the plan include: options for a north-south bikeway, sample amendments to town land use regulations to encourage bikeway development, coordination with Connecticut Department of Transportation and the region’s towns to improve bike routes for families, teenagers, and young adults, and methods for improving roadway safety for both automobiles and bicyclists.
