The Lower Connecticut River is one of the most celebrated waterbodies in the country. Since, 1990, the Connecticut River and its estuary have garnered awards and accolades including The Nature Conservancy's designation as "One of 40 Last Great Places in the Western Hemisphere." Additionally, it has been officially named an "American Heritage River" (Presidential Designation), and a "Wetland of International Significance" (RAMSAR International Convention).
