CRERPA

CRERPA was established to serve the nine towns of the Connecticut River Estuary Region. The Region is one of fifteen planning regions established under state law. The regional planning organizations (RPOs) act as a forum for addressing issues of regional concern and prepare a Regional Plan of Conservation and Development. In 2004, CRERPA was designated a Metropolitan Transportation Organization based on 2000 Census Population Density.

Over the years, the agency has provided a myriad of services, generally in the areas of land use, transportation, and conservation to the nine towns. The RPOs in all fifteen regions act as conduits for information flow between the state and area towns. In recent years RPOs have expanded their regional organization services to include natural hazard mitigation and domestic preparedness.

In addition, the agency has served as a catalyst for the development of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in the region. GIS serves to translate land use and parcel data into computer generated maps. Currently, all nine towns have initiated some form of GIS system for their respective towns.
