3. Legislative
Reports: Jeff Nelson said that the denial
of flood aid in specific counties was appealed and FEMA is now giving out money
for damage. Mold is now becoming a problem in some flood damaged areas.
- The
legislatures are not likely to remove the funding source for the conveyance
tax.
-Phil
Miller announced there will be a meeting for all towns along the Valley
Railroad lines with Valley Railroad on Tuesday, June 15th at 11:00
am at the Chester Town Hall. Having a
passenger rail up to Haddam Meadows State Park will be discussed along with
other issues.
-The State
has not been successful with Tiger grants because the towns are not coordinated
and talking with one another.
-Jean
Davies said that the Emergency Management Memorandum of Agreement process will
start rolling soon, September 8th will be a
date to complete the paper work.
4. HHW –
Electronics Recycling: The process
for the State electronics recycling program is just starting. The State is now accepting applications from
recyclers to complete a list of approved recyclers for the towns. As more information comes forth, Janice
Ehle/Meyer will inform the Selectpersons about what is happening.
5. Local
Budget: Clinton is still in the process of having
their budget approved. The education
portion of the budget has passed and the town portion is being voted upon
today.
6. Any other items: Linda Krause announced that Jay Northrop has been hired by CRERPA
as a planner. He will start on July 19th, welcome Jay!!
- Mike
Pace stated that Old Saybrook is looking into buying its own dredge for
cleaning the river. Mike Pace and Phil
Miller will be discussing this possibility.
- Mike
Pace said that Old Saybrook is taking this economic down time to add to its
economic base. Work will be done to
facades of single story buildings along Main Street, tax incentive will be
taken advantage of.
