1. Call to Order: Chairman Mike Pace convened the meeting at 10:33 a.m. at CRERPA Headquarters, Saybrook Station, Old Saybrook.
2. Legislative Updates:
Jeff Nelson, Governor Rell’s Representative:
a. H1N1 (swine flu): There are 33 confirmed cases in Connecticut. Fairfield had 10 reported cases.
b. Job Fair: There is a job fair in Groton coming up. Jeff suggested that for more information about upcoming job fairs, look on the internet (www.ct.jobfairs.com).
c. Labor agreement with CT State employees should be settled by the end of the month.
d. There is no new date about finalizing the State budget.
Jenny Contois, Congressman Courtney’s Representative: A booklet has just been completed on competitive grants, and upon request to Courney’s office, a copy will be mailed to requestor.
A series of seminars for small businesses are scheduled in conjunction with the Small Business Administration.
3. Minutes:
A Motion to approve the April‘09 minutes was made by Rich Cabral and seconded by Tim Griswold. All were in favor
4. Update on
Regionalizing Probate Courts
The results of the meeting on April 23rd were discussed concerning the consolidation of the probate courts. The Estuary judges presented their plan for the Lower Connecticut Valley. The suggestion was made that eight towns might consolidate, with Clinton going with Madison. However, there will be a meeting on the 21st of May in Westbrook at 9:00 a.m.to review all options. The selectmen and the judges will be invited to this important meeting.
5. Old Business:
a. Regionalism Update: There is not much new except that perhaps in the future a CEO or designee must a member of the RPO. Should this occur, CRERPA would have a 27-member Board.
b. HHW: The consumer electronics collection went well on the 18th of April. Overall, we had 371 vehicles, and 279 were from our nine-town region.
Janice is very happy with our new vendor Veolia. They are efficient and professional.
The painting contractor’s costs for the HHW facility were discussed. The submitted costs were not acceptable, and Janice is pursuing bids from several other contractors.
Phil Miller reported that Essex may be joining CRAHD. A review was made, and it was ascertained that the cost per capita to join would be $12 vs. $18 by not joining.
State Troopers: The issue regarding benefits is being addressed.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:00. Motion to adjourn was made by Noel Bishop and seconded by Tim Griswold. All were in favor.
